A Hong Kong diner said she found what appeared to be a newborn mouse in a takeaway bowl of satay beef rice noodles bought in Kwai Chung on Sept. 6. She posted a video on Threads and reported the incident to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.

HK01 reported that the department later collected the container as evidence. No inspection or laboratory finding had been released publicly by Sept. 7.

The video and the diner’s account show an alleged contamination incident. They do not, by themselves, establish when the object entered the food or who was responsible.

The restaurant is in an industrial area of Kwai Chung. Public reports have not said whether the food was prepared, packed or delivered by the same staff, or whether the restaurant has responded. Those details will form part of any official investigation.

Hong Kong’s Food Safety Centre said in August that 2,600 summer-monitoring samples had an overall pass rate of 99.8 per cent. That programme tests selected microbiological and chemical risks; it is not a continuous inspection of every takeaway kitchen.

For this case, the retained food, kitchen inspection and preparation records will determine whether the incident breached the Food Business Regulation. Until those findings are released, the footage remains a documented complaint rather than a confirmed prosecution.
